IFS Safety Wheel commended by the UK judging panel of the European Good Practice Awards 2008

Following entry to the recent European Good Practice awards, IFS have been commended by the UK judging panel for their entry of the ”IFS Safety Wheel” .  The awards aim to demonstrate, by example, the benefits of following good safety and health practices to all. 

In order to help explain our approach to Health & Safety within the Group “The IFS Safety Wheel”™ has been developed.  It is an internal innovation which at its heart has the 3 principle components of Health & Safety Good Practice namely; Policy, System and Procedures.  These components are linked by 3 fundamentals without which the components are merely pieces of paper or good ideas.  It is the fundamentals that make the wheel turn and help drive Health & Safety into every aspect of IFS business.  In the same way you need wheels on your vehicle to drive, we believe The Safety Wheel is there to support and guide our operations.  Unlike many other models, it is the practical application of the IFS Safety Wheel into the workplace that is at the heart of its construction.  The emphasis on procedures as a component in its design, gives our organisation clarity on the sometimes blurred link between theory and the real world.  The Standard Operating Procedures within the Safety Wheel Department Files can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of the business and also gives the opportunity to consolidate into a physical and identifiable object, a training standard and training record for staff.

Over the past 12 months, IFS has gone from strength to strength in developing and implementing the IFS Safety Wheel into all areas of our business and we look forward to seeking ways to constantly improve and champion our Safety Wheel both internally and externally.
